Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate nursing staff during the afternoon shift, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure optimal team performance.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and evaluation of care needs across various specialties such as geriatrics, behavioral health, pediatrics, and acute care.
- Administer medications and injections following HIPAA regulations and nursing policies, including IV infusions, catheter care, tube feeding, and medication management.
- Oversee medical documentation using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Epic or Cerner to ensure accurate and timely record-keeping in compliance with state healthcare regulations.
- Manage patient care plans, discharge planning, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to facilitate seamless transitions of care.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and safety standards such as basic life support (BLS), airway management, and ventilator care.
- Maintain compliance with long-term care regulations and nursing policies while managing staff schedules and supervising daily operations effectively.
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse patient populations including long-term care residents, individuals with developmental disabilities, dementia or memory care needs.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10 coding, CPT coding for procedures like spinal taps or cardiac catheterization.
- Skilled in utilizing EMR/EHR systems such as Athenahealth or eClinicalWorks for documentation and case management.
- Demonstrated leadership in supervising nursing teams within hospital medicine, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), or emergency medicine settings; experience managing staff in high-pressure environments like Level I or Level II trauma centers is highly valued.
- Expertise in critical care procedures including ventilator management, venipuncture (phlebotomy), sterile processing, catheterization, and tube feeding.
- Familiarity with state healthcare regulations related to nursing home operations and long-term care facilities; knowledge of HIPAA compliance is essential.
- Excellent communication skills for managerial coordination with multidisciplinary teams; ability to handle triage situations efficiently.
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments involving physiology knowledge and diagnostic evaluation to inform treatment decisions.
