St. Ambrose Catholic School seeks a part-time Librarian to join our faculty during an exciting season of growth and transformation. This position offers a unique opportunity to help launch and shape the first Catholic bilingual (Spanish–English) school library in the Diocese of Arlington, as St. Ambrose breaks ground this year on a newly constructed library space.

St. Ambrose is the only Catholic dual language Spanish–English immersion school in the Commonwealth of Virginia, serving students in grades PreK–8. Students receive approximately 50% of instruction in Spanish and 50% in English, and the library program plays a vital role in supporting biliteracy, academic research, Catholic identity, and global consciousness.

Position Overview

The Librarian is responsible for developing and implementing a school library program aligned with the Diocese of Arlington Library Curriculum Guidelines, supporting instruction across grade levels, and collaborating with faculty to foster a love of reading, inquiry, and responsible information use. The Librarian will also lead the restoration of the school’s existing collection currently in off-site storage and intentionally build a Spanish-language collection that supports biliteracy and cultural understanding.

Primary Responsibilities

• Implement a library program aligned with Diocese of Arlington curriculum standards

• Collaborate with classroom teachers to support literacy, research, and inquiry-based learning

• Curate and manage a balanced library collection that reflects Catholic values, academic rigor, and cultural diversity

• Reestablish and organize the existing library collection currently held in off-site storage

• Develop and expand a high-quality Spanish-language collection to support biliteracy and global awareness

• Promote responsible digital citizenship and ethical information use

• Support the integration of Catholic identity through library resources and instruction

• Assist in planning for the opening and operation of the new library space

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; coursework or degree in Library Science or related field preferred

• Experience working in a school or educational setting preferred

• Familiarity with elementary and middle school literacy and research instruction

• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred

• Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills

• Commitment to the mission of Catholic education

Position Details

• Part-time position with the possibility of becoming full time depending on school needs and applicant skills

• Schedule and hours to be determined based on school needs

• Compensation commensurate with experience and diocesan guidelines
