Position Summary
The MO Team Leader – Metallography Lab supports Technical Services and production by coordinating daily metallography laboratory activities and ensuring metallurgical testing, sample preparation, hardness testing, microscopy evaluations, and quality investigations are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. This position serves as the day-shift leader for the Metallography Lab and supports product development, product qualification, steel quality investigations, equipment readiness, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Main Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Coordinate and prioritize incoming metallography, microscopy, hardness testing, and quality evaluation requests.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, repair activities, and spare parts readiness.
- Support product development trials, product qualification work, steel quality investigations, and metallurgical evaluations.
- Assist with audits, customer visits, corrective actions, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Train and mentor laboratory personnel on metallographic preparation, microscopy, hardness testing, and laboratory procedures.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, procedures, reports, and training documentation.
- Safely operate metallography laboratory equipment and sample preparation equipment.
- Develop and revise JSA’s for the Metallography Lab to maintain compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and housekeeping requirements.
- Understand and support the company’s goals and values and comply with all company, department, safety, quality, environmental, and ethics policies and procedures.
About You / Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year Technical Services laboratory experience
- Must have completed all training required to work independently within the Metallography Laboratory
- Understanding of the theoretical and mechanical aspects of equipment in chemical and physical testing laboratories
- Working knowledge of metallographic sample preparation, microscopy, hardness testing, and related laboratory practices
- Good computer skills including MS365 proficiency
- Organizational and time management skills
- Very good communication, collaboration, interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Associate’s degree or higher in a technical or scientific discipline
- 5 years of Technical Services laboratory experience
- Familiarity with software used to operate metallurgical laboratory equipment as well as AI tools
