Key Responsibilities
- Design and Development: Lead the design, analysis, and validation of mechanical systems and components for Class 8 vehicles, including chassis, suspension, powertrain, and structural elements.
- System Integration: Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with vehicle electronics and control systems.
- Prototype and Testing: Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation of mechanical components to ensure performance, durability, and compliance with SAE, DOT, and EPA standards.
- Project Leadership: Manage engineering projects from concept to production, including timeline, budget, and resource allocation, while mentoring junior engineers.
- Optimization: Drive continuous improvement in vehicle performance, fuel efficiency, and weight reduction through advanced materials and design techniques.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed technical drawings, specifications, and reports using CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion360) and PLM systems.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs meet federal and state regulations, including FMVSS, EPA emissions standards, and safety requirements.
- Supplier Collaboration: Work with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure component quality, cost-effectiveness, and production feasibility.
- Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in Class 8 mixer vehicle design, such as electrification and autonomous systems .
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in the heavy-duty vehicle or Class 8 truck industry.
- Deep understanding of Class 8 vehicle systems (e.g., chassis, suspension, brakes, and powertrain) and relevant standards (SAE, DOT, EPA).
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion360) and FEA tools.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle dynamics, structural analysis, and thermal management.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including casting, forging, welding, and assembly.
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong leadership and project management abilities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
- Experience with hybrid or electric vehicle systems.
- Knowledge of various vehicle technologies.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
- Ability to work in offices, lab, and manufacturing environments.
- Occasional travel to supplier sites, testing facilities, or customer locations may be required.
