Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Medical Psychiatric Registered Nurse (Med/Psych RN) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals with both medical and behavioral health needs. The RN will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care while ensuring the safety and well-being of patients with complex medical and psychiatric conditions.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients with medical and psychiatric conditions and develop individualized care plans
- Monitor patient status, vital signs, and changes in physical and mental health
- Administer medications, including psychotropic medications, and evaluate treatment effectiveness
- Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions using evidence-based practices
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals
- Provide crisis intervention and behavioral health support when needed
- Promote a safe therapeutic environment while managing challenging patient behaviors
- Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
- Coordinate discharge planning with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and continuing education
- Advocate for patients to ensure access to appropriate medical and behavioral health services
- Active Illinois RN License
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required
- Current BLS Certification
- Current ACLS Certification
- Current PALS Certification
- Current CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) Certification
- Minimum 2–3 years of Medical-Surgical and Psychiatric Nursing experience
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications and their interactions with medical treatments
- Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient advocacy skills
- Ability to work 12-hour day or night shifts
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or current enrollment in a BSN program
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Certification (PMH-BC)
- Previous experience in Medical Psychiatric, Behavioral Health, or Med/Surg Telemetry settings
