The Biosciences Division at SRI International is seeking a Research Veterinary Technician (Animal Laboratory Technician) to join our team in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Responsibilities
Technical Responsibilities:
- Conduct accurate clinical assessments of animals.
- Evaluate incoming animals’ health reports.
- Perform standard paraveterinary procedures, such as therapeutic administration and anesthesia.
- Provide emergency care and treatment as needed.
- Maintain sanitized, organized and well-stocked procedure rooms
- Ensure all instruments and equipment are sanitized and in proper working condition.
- Manage pharmaceuticals and medical supply inventories, including ordering materials for ongoing studies.
- Promote and ensure animal health, welfare, and proper husbandry practices.
- Adhere to all regulatory, ethical, and institutional requirements governing animal care and use.
- Maintain thorough and compliant documentation to meet regulatory standards.
- Participate in interdepartmental meetings and may serve as a member of the IACUC.
- Follow safety, environmental, and infection control procedures at all times.
- Ensure compliance with all IACUC-approved protocols.
- Stay current with AAALAC and OLAW guidelines.
- Assist in facility inspections.
- Develop and deliver technical training modules, conduct staff training, and maintain associated training records.
- Maintain open communications with the attending veterinarian, the site director, and facility staff.
- Completion of an AVMA-accredited Animal Health Technician program and/or possession of a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license. A bachelor’s degree with relevant experience may substitute for licensure requirements.
- Experience working with rodent models is preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Availability to respond to veterinary emergencies on weekends and holidays.
- No known allergies to laboratory animal.

Salary : $45,000 - $55,000
