Business Development Manager – Corporate (Energy Focus)
Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid - 3 days on-site)
Position Overview
Join a leading AmLaw 50 firm as a Business Development (BD) Manager. This role will support the Corporate Practice Group as a key member of the broader Energy Industry BD team, collaborating closely with attorneys and marketing colleagues to drive strategic growth initiatives, execute high-impact pitches and proposals, and elevate the firm's market presence.

The ideal candidate brings strong transactional knowledge—particularly in M&A and capital markets, with a preference for experience in the energy sector. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Business Development (Corporate Practice).
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with attorneys and BD stakeholders to identify and execute cross-selling opportunities and go-to-market strategies
- Lead the development and drafting of RFP responses, pitches, and proposals, coordinating inputs across teams to meet tight deadlines
- Oversee and optimize experience and credentials strategy, leveraging the firm’s experience management system (Foundation)
- Support client targeting initiatives, tracking pursuits and reporting on results
- Conduct strategic research on clients, competitors, and market trends to inform business growth strategies
- Develop meeting agendas and materials, facilitate internal communications, and manage follow-ups
- Maintain and update pitch materials, credentials, and practice descriptions
- Manage legal directory and league table submissions; support awards and rankings efforts in collaboration with PRPlan and execute business development events (in-person and virtual), including logistics, communications, and ROI tracking
- Coordinate cross-practice and cross-industry BD efforts across the firm
- Identify sponsorships, conferences, and profile-raising opportunities for attorneys and practice group
- Serve as a power user of BD technology tools, including the firm’s Experience Management System
- Provide support on additional BD and firmwide initiatives as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 5 years of business development and/or marketing experience within a law firm or professional services environment (required)
- Experience supporting corporate transactions, M&A, and/or capital markets work
- Prior exposure to the energy industry is strongly preferred
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills
- Professional presence and ability to interact confidently with senior attorneys and stakeholders
- Collaborative, proactive, and detail-oriented mind
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and familiarity with CRM/BD systems
