Quality Inspector - Mechanical - Level 2

We’re hiring for a Quality Mechanical Inspector Level 2 position in Long Beach, CA. This is a Part-Time opportunity, working 2-3 days a week. If you have a passion for mechanical products and a keen eye for quality, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

• Hand tool set ups to get through receiving inspection 
• Supporting the Receiving department to reduce a backlog of machined rocket parts and associated documentation.
• Perform detailed inspections—visual, dimensional, and physical—on components, assemblies, and raw materials throughout various production phases (including in-process, final, and first article) to verify compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
• Operate and utilize precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, gauge blocks, height gauges, and profilometers to validate part conformity.
• Conduct surface plate inspections and statistical lot sampling based on quality requirements.
• Apply sharp visual inspection skills to identify workmanship issues and product defects, including damage such as burrs, scratches, loose fasteners, dings, and inadequate edge distances.
• Identify and categorize nonconformities and confirm that corrective actions or rework have been properly executed.
• Examine and approve First Article Inspection (FAI) reports, ensuring all documentation is complete, accurate, traceable, and compliant with applicable standards.
• Audit and confirm the integrity of supporting documentation to ensure alignment with industry and commodity-specific quality requirements.
• Cross-check shipping documentation for accuracy, confirming part numbers, serial numbers, change notices, and final destination data are correct.

• 3 years of hands-on experience with precision mechanical parts inspection.
• Must have Mold and Comparator Experience
• Strong ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and industry/commodity standards.
• Proficient in GD&T and validating dimensions (tolerances ≥.005”) using hand tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges).
• Experience with certificates of conformance and inspection documentation.
• Ability to adapt to new technology and software.
• Excellent visual acuity to detect defects in complex products.
• Must be willing to undergo a background check.
• Must be ITAR compliant.
