Banks Boatworks is a growing custom boatbuilder and repair yard in Beaufort, NC, known for its craftsmanship, integrity, and exceptional service. The company is launching a new ground-up custom boatbuilding division, expanding beyond repair work into full custom builds ranging from 25-70 feet.
The Head of New Construction will lead this new division and oversee all aspects of hull construction, lamination, interior carpentry, mechanical and electrical integration, and overall build quality. This leader will establish production processes, manage build timelines, and develop a team around them. This is a hands-on oversight role ideal for a seasoned custom boatbuilder experienced with handcrafted, non-production vessels.
Key Responsibilities
· Direct all custom hull construction, lamination, structural assembly, and integration work.
· Oversee interior carpentry, mechanical, and electrical phases of each build.
· Manage production timelines for builds ranging from 3–4 months to multi-year projects.
· Build, supervise, and mentor a growing team of skilled boatbuilders.
· Establish construction standards, workflows, and quality-control processes for the new division.
· Plan materials, equipment needs, and daily labor allocation.
· Collaborate with yard, service, and design teams to ensure smooth workflow.
· Maintain a safe, organized workspace and uphold Banks Boatworks’ craftsmanship standards.
Skills and Experience
· Extensive experience in custom boatbuilding
· Expertise in hand-built hull construction, fiberglass work, lamination, and composite fabrication.
· Strong understanding of carpentry, systems installation, and multi-phase marine construction.
· Ability to read plans, troubleshoot issues, and ensure structural and aesthetic quality.
· Proven leadership ability; experience building or supervising teams is preferred.
· Strong production planning, communication, and problem-solving skills.
