How You Will Make An Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. Join our Technical Services/Controls Engineering team as 2027 summer intern, where you’ll gain hands-on experience supporting electrical control systems, product development, and technical service operations. This internship is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields who are interested in learning how controls technology supports large-scale HVAC and industrial cooling solutions within a global manufacturing company.

• Assist with reviewing and interpreting product specifications and bills of materials to ensure accuracy and alignment with engineering requirements.
• Support the development and testing of control product solutions, including reviewing application limits, drafting documentation, and participating in product improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and sourcing teams to help qualify vendors, track compliance with electrical codes and standards, and maintain strong cross-functional communication.
• Contribute to technical training and support materials, including product manuals, reference guides, and resources for both internal teams and external customers.
• Gain exposure to new product introduction (NPI) processes, control system design, and customer-focused solutions that integrate with broader SPX product offerings.

What We Are Looking For (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

Required Experience & Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  
  
  

Ideal Experience & Skills

• Experience with various test equipment, network communications, and some scripting / programming skills.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of electrical engineering to projects.
  
  
  

Education & Certifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or Materials Engineering, or Engineering Technology.
• Cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• High school diploma or GED required.
  
  
  

Travel & Working Environment

• Hybrid work schedule
• The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.
• Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
• Keyboarding/typing.
• Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
• Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Our intern and co-op positions are paid, and we offer housing stipends for students who are not local to the Kansas City area.
