What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Manager position at Springhill Suites by Marriott?
As the General Manager of our brand-new SpringHill Suites, you will function as the primary strategic business leader of the property. You will initially oversee the final phases of the pre-opening pipeline—including staff recruitment, local supply chain setups, and property preparation—before transitioning the asset into a high-performing, profitable operation.
You will be fully responsible for driving Guest Satisfaction Scores (GSS), maintaining flawless Marriott brand compliance, managing the property P&L, and leading a high-energy team in a dynamic local market.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre-Opening & Property Launch
- Team Recruitment & Culture: Build the property team from the ground up. Own the local recruitment strategy, hiring and training key department heads (Assistant General Manager, Executive Housekeeper, Maintenance, and Sales).
- Operational Setup: Coordinate the final setup of all property departments, ensuring Marriott systems (FOSSE/Opera, GXP, MARSHA) are fully integrated and operational prior to day one.
- Pre-Opening Logistics: Partner with ownership and corporate leaders to manage punch lists, coordinate vendor delivery schedules, and secure local licensing, health, and safety compliance.
2. Operational & Brand Leadership
- Brand Standards: Ensure the property consistently meets or exceeds Marriott Quality Assurance (QA) audits and operational requirements (such as the standard SpringHill Suites morning breakfast execution).
- Daily Oversight: Walk the property daily to ensure public spaces, suites, and common areas reflect pristine cleanliness and flawless preventative maintenance.
- Guest First Culture: Champion a guest-centric environment, actively monitoring real-time GSS feedback and comments to implement swift, structured improvements.
3. Financial Acumen & Revenue Optimization
- P&L Ownership: Manage the total property budget, including monthly forecasting, labor cost management, and strict expense controls to drive strong bottom-line flow-through.
- Sales Partnership: Collaborate closely with the Director of Sales and regional revenue management to implement aggressive local market rate strategies, securing high-yield corporate accounts and capitalizing on local business volumes.
- Market Analysis: Routinely analyze STR reports and competitor performance within the Fox Cities market to make proactive, data-driven tactical shifts.
Candidate Profile & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of progressive hotel management experience. Experience with Marriott select-service brands and familiarity with Marriott proprietary systems (FOSSE, GXP, MGS) is highly preferred.
- Pre-Opening/Launch Tracking: Prior experience launching a new-build property or leading a major brand conversion is a significant plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Leadership Style: A hands-on, boots-on-the-ground leader who thrives on building local operational networks, mentoring teams, and maintaining high accountability.
