Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Laboratory Technician role based at Springfield Technical Community College in Springfield, MA. The Laboratory Technician will support instructional and research activities by preparing laboratory materials, setting up equipment, and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized lab environment. Responsibilities include operating and calibrating laboratory instruments, monitoring inventory, ordering supplies, and ensuring proper storage and labeling of chemicals and specimens. The role also involves assisting faculty and students with laboratory procedures, adhering to institutional safety protocols, and documenting lab activities, quality control results, and equipment maintenance. The Laboratory Technician will collaborate with academic departments to support course delivery and may help train students on appropriate lab techniques and safety practices.
Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong laboratory skills and experience working in academic or research laboratory settings.
  • Candidates should possess skills in handling and maintaining laboratory equipment, including setup, calibration, and routine troubleshooting.
  • Candidates should possess quality control skills to ensure accurate, reliable test results and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Candidates should possess analytical skills to interpret data, identify issues, and support problem-solving in laboratory procedures.
  • Candidates should possess knowledge and practical experience aligned with the responsibilities typically expected of laboratory technicians.
  • Relevant associate degree or higher in a science or technical discipline (such as biology, chemistry, engineering technology, or related field) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety standards, chemical hygiene, and proper waste disposal practices is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions are important.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in a diverse, inclusive educational environment is valued.
