Duties
- Supervise and coordinate daily nursing operations, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality patient care across departments such as medical-surgical, ICU, emergency medicine, geriatrics, and behavioral health.
- Lead and mentor nursing staff by providing guidance, performance evaluations, and ongoing training to promote professional growth and adherence to clinical standards.
- Oversee patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, medication administration, IV infusion management, catheter care, wound suturing, and other medical procedures utilizing EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Cerner or Epic.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain accurate medical documentation, including ICD-10/ICD-9 coding for diagnoses and procedures.
- Coordinate discharge planning, case management, utilization review, and utilization management to optimize patient outcomes and resource utilization.
- Participate in infection control protocols, sterile processing procedures, and maintain aseptic techniques to uphold safety standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for complex cases involving trauma (Level I/II Trauma Centers), neonatal ventilators, pediatric care (PICU), or dementia/memory care units.
Qualifications
- Valid RN license with current state registration; supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Extensive clinical background in acute care settings such as ICU, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, or long-term care environments including skilled nursing facilities or assisted living communities.
- Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding and CPT coding is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience supervising nursing teams in fast-paced environments.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, medical terminology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges; familiarity with dementia care or behavioral health is advantageous.
- Ability to perform physical examinations, venipuncture (phlebotomy), IV insertion/injection administration, tube feeding management, ventilator support, spinal taps, gastric lavage procedures, and other advanced clinical skills.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and OSHA standards; certification in basic life support (BLS) required; advanced certifications like ACLS or PALS are a plus.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively triage patient needs and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across various specialties including cardiology (cardiac catheterization), ophthalmology, occupational health or neonatal units.
