What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Custodian (Job Pool) 2025-26 School Year position at Springfield Public Schools?
Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Substitute Custodian. This position works on-call, as needed and contributes to the appearance of the building by cleaning restrooms, classrooms, halls, office areas, and grounds.
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications that support our district vision “Every Student a Graduate Prepared for a Bright and Successful Future”:
- Knowledge of effective cleaning practices, procedures and equipment;
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, policies and procedures in English;
- Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and students using tact, courtesy and good judgment;
- Self-motivated;
- Willing to work as part of a team;
- Ability to work varied shifts;
- Ability to operate standard cleaning equipment such as vacuums and hand cleaning tools;
- Ability and commitment to practice cultural competency and demonstrate respect for diversity;
- Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including but not limited to:
- Lifting objects up to 75 lbs.
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Climbs stairs and ladders
