About the Role Nature Communications is the leading multidisciplinary Open Access journal, publishing high-quality scientific research. To help build on the success of the journal, we are seeking a scientist with a background in biocatalysis, enzyme engineering, chemoenzymatic synthesis, computational chemistry applied to biological systems, or related areas at the chemistry-biology interface. The successful candidate will have a critical eye, a deep understanding of their subject area, broad scientific interests, and the ability to think on their feet. The Interim Associate or Senior Editor role at Nature Communications is ideal for researchers who love science but feel that a career at the bench is not enough to satisfy their desire to learn more about the natural world, and for those who enjoy reading papers outside their chosen area of research. Role Responsibilities: • Handle original research papers and oversee peer review • Work closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection • Make well-reasoned editorial decisions based on expert advice • Determine subject representation within the journal • Liaise extensively with editors across Nature Portfolio and the wider scientific community • Attend conferences and visit research institutions Experience, Skills & Qualifications Essential: • PhD (or equivalent) in biocatalysis, enzyme engineering, chemoenzymatic synthesis, computational chemistry applied to biological systems, or a related discipline at the chemistry-biology interface • Strong understanding of chemical biology and related research areas • Ability to critically assess the novelty, context, and impact of research • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English • Strong interest in scientific research beyond a primary area of expertise • Ability to quickly engage with new research areas • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills • Willingness to travel and engage with researchers internationally Desirable: • Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience • Editorial experience (not required; full training will be provided) • Significant editorial experience may be considered for appointment at Senior Editor level To Apply, Please Submit: • CV • Cover letter explaining your motivation, preferred office location, salary expectations, and earliest start date At Springer Nature, we value diversity and inclusion and are committed to building an environment where everyone can thrive.
