About the Brand The goal of the Publishing Performance and Intelligence Group (PP&I) is to help deliver next generation digital publishing at Springer Nature and as a result, grow the number of published articles, especially in open access (OA). Working closely with the Journals Group, Production, IT, Marketing and Customer Service, PP&I support increasing the number of transfers of articles between journals, commissioning new collections and strengthening editor engagement and delivering enhancements to the end-to-end publishing process. The Centre of Excellence (CoE) team within PP&I creates and drives continuous improvement in PP&I and Journal Publishing teams with their respective stakeholders in order to achieve their strategic goals. With this purpose in mind, we initiate and run several tactical and strategic projects with specific business outcomes. About the Role Transfer Desk is a manuscript transfer service, which provides author with a convenient way of resubmitting their manuscript to a more suitable journal. Finding the right journal can be difficult and sometimes sound manuscripts are rejected because they don't precisely match a journal’s aims and scope. Transfer desk team helps authors to leave with a positive experience & encourages them to come back to us in future while giving editors the first choice of new research. They help authors find the most suitable journal, recognizing the scientific merit of their manuscript and ensuring it can be submitted elsewhere within SpringerNature without delay. Roles Responsibilities Perform light assessment (screening) of manuscripts, applying scientific comprehension and understanding of scientific & academic writing standards Identify suitable journals for transferred manuscripts using business insights, publishing workflows & systems knowledge, and strong domain understanding Send a list of most suitable journals to authors, ensuring effective communication and clarity in recommendations Provide the best possible solutions to author queries by referring to standard operating procedures, demonstrating resourcefulness, tech savviness, and effective communication Transfer manuscripts to the preferred journal and support authors throughout the transfer process, leveraging expertise in publishing workflows & systems while balancing stakeholder expectations Build and maintain effective relationships with authors and editors through strong collaboration and communication skills Participate in trials and ad hoc process-level initiatives, showcasing resourcefulness, tech savviness, and business insights Demonstrate resilience while managing high volumes, tight timelines, and evolving priorities Mentor and support new joiners, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing Share best practices for the respective cluster, contributing to continuous improvement and team capability building Key Relationships Authors Heads of -Submissions and Author Services (Content Retention) team Journal Editors Experience, Skills & Qualifications Experience: 2 – 4 years Skills Good Communication Skill (written and verbal English) Email etiquettes Subject matter expertise– Political Science, Economics, Literature, Education, Law and Justice Publishing background knowledge Strong analytical and logical reasoning ability Customer service and business communication experience Manuscript handling experience would be an added advantage Qualifications Master’s degree or equivalent in - Political Science, Economics, Literature, Education, Law and Justice At Springer Nature, our mission is to be part of progress – and that begins with inclusion: of people, perspectives, and ideas.
