SUMMARY: Under general direction, manages food service operations in school cafeteria; prepares and serves foods.
Duties And Performance Expectations/Essential Functions
- Manages and supervises operation of school cafeteria and activities of personnel; implements, interprets and enforces kitchen policies and procedures; plans, schedules and assigns work of assistant cooks.
- Plans daily meal for students and staff (e.g., prepares menu following prescribed nutritional guidelines and standardized recipes, determines quantities of food items needed, determines serving portions, etc.).
- Determines inventory standards for food products and government commodities; requisitions and orders food and paper supplies; maintains records of purchased items; monitors and maintains necessary inventory.
- Reviews deliveries and reports discrepancies; reviews related bills to ensure accuracy.
- Uses and demonstrates recommended methods of measuring and weighing ingredients.
- Prepares meals for students and staff (e.g., cuts and prepares vegetables and meats, mixes ingredients, etc.); carries food pans to serving lines.
- Opens kitchen; turns on and operates kitchen equipment (e.g., mixers, slicers, dishwashers, stoves, ovens, etc.).
- Ensures kitchen, dining room and kitchen equipment are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner following health department regulations; defrosts and cleans walk-in freezers; washes tables, cleans meat slicers, stoves, oven, etc., according to approved standards.
- Ensures substitute is engaged to replace absent worker.
- Reports accidents and potential hazards to proper authority.
- Rotates and dates stock and supplies; ensures food storage meets health regulations.
- Removes food from freezer and other storage on a daily basis.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Two (2) years' experience in institutional food preparation and service; or equivalent.
- Must obtain Level 2 Food Protection certificate. May be obtained after employment.
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license.
- Must pass criminal background check.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Effective Date: 2026/2027 school year 8/11/2026 start
- Type of Contract: One-year probationary
- Hours of Work: 6 hours per day / 186 day contract
- Salary and Benefits: Starting salary $20.00 hour and benefits as approved in the current negotiated agreement.
