SNAP is seeking a compassionate, resourceful, and relationship-driven Peer Support Coordinator to help individuals identify their goals, build self-sufficiency, and improve their overall well-being.
This position is about more than connecting people to services. It is about meeting individuals where they are, listening to what matters most to them, helping them see what is possible, and working alongside them as they take meaningful steps toward greater stability and independence.
Using a strength-based, person-centered approach, the Peer Support Coordinator helps clients create individualized action plans and connects them with resources that may support housing stability, financial wellness, employment, transportation, energy assistance, home repair, health and wellness, and other essential needs.

What You’ll Do
In this role, you will:
- Build trusting, supportive relationships with clients and their families through empathy, active listening, and peer support principles.
- Help individuals identify and prioritize personal, financial, housing, employment, health, and wellness goals.
- Work with clients to develop individualized action plans with realistic, measurable steps and achievable outcomes.
- Provide ongoing case management and encouragement as clients work toward their goals.
- Manage an assigned caseload and maintain consistent follow-up from initial contact through case closure.
- Meet with clients by phone, in their homes, and at other community locations when appropriate.
- Help clients navigate SNAP programs, eligibility requirements, intake processes, and available services.
- Connect clients with community resources that meet their individual and family needs.
- Provide referrals to community agencies and service providers as appropriate.
- Serve as an advocate and liaison between clients, families, agencies, medical providers, behavioral health providers, and other community partners.
- Assist clients with applications for programs and benefits such as food assistance, SSI, TANF, GAU, housing programs, and other available resources.
- Maintain accurate and timely client records, service notes, care-management information, and outcome tracking in agency databases.
- Protect client confidentiality, dignity, and privacy at all times.
Transportation & Client Assistance
The Peer Support Coordinator may also assist clients with transportation needs. Responsibilities include:
- Safely transporting clients to and from appointments using SNAP-owned vehicles.
- Completing required pre-trip vehicle safety inspections.
- Assisting clients to and from the door and in and out of the vehicle when needed.
- Operating wheelchair ramps and securement devices appropriately.
- Accurately recording mileage and required transportation documentation.
Employees are not permitted to transport clients in personal vehicles.
Collaboration & Community Connection
You will work closely with coworkers, volunteers, community organizations, medical and behavioral health providers, and other service partners to help ensure clients receive coordinated and comprehensive support.
You will also:
- Maintain current knowledge of SNAP programs and community resources.
- Attend regular staff meetings and other meetings as requested.
- Participate in quarterly trainings related to health-specific topics.
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, inclusive, and productive workplace.
- Provide excellent customer service and help strengthen SNAP’s agency-wide customer service culture.
- Serve as an ambassador of SNAP’s mission and values.
- Complete assigned projects and related responsibilities as organizational and client needs evolve.

Qualifications:Requirements:
Education and Experience
- Required: HS/GED and at least two years of experience related to Peer Support, coaching, mentoring, case management, customer service or human services support, transportation services or related work. Must have clean driving record and a valid driver’s license. Must be able to pass Department of Transportation drug testing and secure DOT Medical Clearance. Must be age 21 or over.
- Preferred: Strong preference for lived or professional experience related to low-income, underserved populations, with varied health economic and educational circumstances. Bi-lingual speaker. An AA Degree in a related field and one year of experience in fields related including Peer Support and client transportation or some combination of education and experience totaling two years. CPR Certification preferred.

- Ability to empathize with and advocate for low-income households, and to maintain confidentiality with personal information

- Must have a strong sense of safety and adhere to safety protocols
- Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills with a diverse population
- Computer proficiency with MS Office required, with aptitude and ability to learn related technical skills
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively in an open, fast-paced, high-stress setting with frequent interruptions
- Good planning, organization and critical thinking skills, including ability to prioritize and communicate questions and concerns
- Ability to work independently, using initiative and ethical judgment to resolve problems and ensure workflow is appropriately addressed in a timely manner
Training and Certifications
Securement device training within 30 days of hire
PASS training within 30 days
CPR/First Aid Certification within 60 days of hire
Trained Community Health Worker within six months of hire
Peer Support Counselor Certification within six months of hire
Work Environment/Physical Activities:
Work is conducted in vehicles and client homes Work requires ability to walk clients to and from vehicle. Some lifting may be required. May deal with difficult people, sometimes in crisis situations. This position requires local travel within Spokane County. Local travel will be approximately 25% of the position duties.
