About Spivey Services

Spivey Services is a leading provider of traffic safety and sanitation solutions in Virginia, offering traffic control, equipment rentals, and portable sanitation services—including restroom/shower trailers, hand-wash stations, and toilet accessories.

Position Overview

Traffic Control Supervisor II is a mid‑level field leadership role responsible for overseeing traffic control crews, coordinating complex work zone operations, and ensuring full compliance with the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual (VWAPM), project specifications, and all company safety standards.

This position serves as a critical field leader—providing advanced decision‑making, crew oversight, quality control, and direct communication with contractors, inspectors, and company management. Supervisor II is expected to manage higher‑risk work zones, train developing supervisors, respond to escalations, and represent Spivey Services with the highest level of professionalism.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced supervisors ready to take on broader responsibility, lead multiple field operations, and contribute to continuous improvement within the Traffic Control Division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee traffic control crews and ensure all work zones are set up, monitored, and removed according to VWAPM and project‑specific requirements.
  • Conduct daily field audits, verify compliance, and execute corrective actions when necessary.
  • Perform both stationary and mobile lane closures on limited‑access highways, ensuring proper setup, monitoring, and breakdown of traffic control devices in accordance with state and federal safety standards.
  • Serve as the primary on‑site point of contact for contractors, inspectors, and company leadership for assigned projects.
  • Review and interpret complex traffic control plans; ensure crews execute layouts accurately and efficiently.
  • Coordinate daily job readiness, staffing, and equipment deployment.
  • Adjust work zone setups in real time to respond to emergency conditions, project changes, or safety concerns.
  • Provide hands‑on training to new employees, Flaggers, Traffic Control Assistants, and Supervisor I personnel.
  • Model and enforce high standards of safety, productivity, and professionalism.
  • Participate in onboarding, skills assessments, and development of junior supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate logs for job activities, crew attendance, safety observations, and incident reports.
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment, and materials assigned to crews are properly maintained, stocked, and inspected.
  • Communicate daily operational updates to the Traffic Operations Manager or department head.
  • Champion a safety-first culture across all crews and sites.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and lead tailgate meetings when supervising multiple crews.
  • Respond to and help manage any field incidents or near-misses in accordance with company protocols.
