The Controls Engineer is responsible for programming, installing, and managing the sensors, machines, and data acquisition systems used to evaluate product performance, safety, and reliability. As a Controls Engineer, you will be the nervous system of the production facility. You are responsible for designing, programming, and troubleshooting production machines and systems.
Compensation: $110K-$135K, with benefits
Responsibilities
- Design and develop integrated systems for various testing, and manufacturing environments.
- Develop and optimize code for PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces), and SCADA systems.
- Select, calibrate, program, and install sensors , machines and other production hardware as needed.
- Integrate and calibrate multi-axis industrial robots (e.g., FANUC, ABB, Kuka) for tasks like spot welding, sealing, and material handling.
- Verify that test setups meet industry standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.) and internal quality requirements.
- Work closely with other engineering departments to fix issues, and complete assigned projects.
- Other duties as needed and assigned.
Preferred Skills
- Mastery of Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Structured Text. You must be able to write and debug code in environments like Studio 5000 (Allen-Bradley) or TIA Portal (Siemens).
- Experience in statistical data analysis software (e.g. Minitab) would be a plus.
- Creating intuitive interfaces for operators to monitor machine health and clear faults (e.g., FactoryTalk View, Ignition).
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics and P&IDs.
- Configuring and tuning VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) and Servo Motors for precise positioning.
- Proficiency in robot-specific languages (like FANUC’s TP/KAREL or ABB’s RAPID) and experience with vision-guided robotics (VGR).
- Advanced programming of Cognex or Keyence cameras for high-speed inspection, 3D mapping, or VIN reading.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering, Master's degree preferred.
- 8 years of experience or equivalent education and experience
- 5 years experience with project management.
- 5 years experience in automotive product development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project) required.
- Proficient in PLC programming and usage.
