Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to provide essential technical knowledge and perform design work across all phases of large-scale EPC projects. Working under direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Design Supervisor, this position performs assignments of intermediate complexity using 3D modeling and 2D CADD tools in a multi-discipline environment.
Basic Requirements
- Associate degree in a related technical field of study
- Minimum 10 years of directly related work experience
- Proficiency in Bentley MicroStation; ability to originate and produce drawings with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in 3D modeling using Intergraph Smart3D (S3D)
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards
- U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with nuclear facility design under ASME NQA-1 requirements
- Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials
- Practical field experience; ability to walk down field systems with minimal guidance
- EPC project experience with DOE, U.S. Federal Government, nuclear QA programs, or manufacturing/pharma/biotech
- Professional CADD/Software or NEC certifications a plus
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and check electrical designs of intermediate complexity using 3D modeling and 2D CADD tools
- Perform advanced design calculations (lighting, raceway sizing, and wire sizing)
- Perform intermediate calculations (voltage drop, cable pulling, panelboard/breaker sizing, and junction box sizing)
- Perform electrical material take-off and bulk material tabulations
- Generate minor design details, create new drawings, and modify existing drawings
- Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients
- Provide technical support for procurement including review of vendor submittals
- Support construction administration including responses to RFIs and field changes
- Direct and mentor junior drafters on design tasks
- Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan, scope, cost, and schedule baselines
Preferred Design Experience
- Raceway Systems: duct bank, embedded conduit, and cable tray design/modeling; power plans
- Grounding & Protection: equipment grounding plans, buried ground loop, cathodic protection
- Diagrams & Schedules: single line diagrams, power panel schedules, motor schematics, interconnection diagrams
- Specialist Systems: lighting design/modeling, heat trace systems, hazardous area classification
Preferred Software Experience
- CAD/Modeling: MicroStation v8i (required), Intergraph Smart3D (required), AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks
- Analysis/Review: Visual Lighting Design, SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL), SmartPlant Review
Codes & Standards Knowledge
- NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace)
- Applicable federal (including DOE orders), state, and local electrical codes and standards
Relevant Industry Experience
Strongly Preferred: Nuclear facilities, DOE-regulated environments, U.S. Federal Government agencies, Manufacturing/Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology
