Database Engineer

Air Force Experience Required
We are seeking a Database Engineer to support the ESCAPE program and broader enterprise data initiatives. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and high-performing database systems that support analytics, reporting, legacy system migration, and cloud-based operational data environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain relational SQL databases, including SQL Server
- Build and support data pipelines and integration workflows using tools such as Azure Data Factory and Databricks
- Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and storage management
- Support migration of legacy USAF systems into a cloud-based operational data store
- Develop and enforce database standards, procedures, and best practices
- Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity and data governance requirements
- Partner with software engineers, data analysts, and DevOps teams to support data access and integration
- Implement backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies
- Automate routine database tasks using Python or PowerShell
- Document database processes and provide technical support, health checks, and operational reviews
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in database engineering or database administration
- Strong experience with SQL and relational databases such as SQL Server, MySQL, or Teradata
- Experience with cloud database platforms such as Azure SQL, AWS RDS, or Google Cloud SQL
- Strong understanding of data modeling, normalization, and schema design
- Experience with data pipelines, ETL, and system migration efforts
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum environments and tools such as Jira
- Experience supporting Air Force or DoD programs is preferred
- Knowledge of DoD data security and compliance standards is a plus
- Certifications in database or cloud technologies are a plus
- DoD 8140 qualifications or related certifications such as Security or CSSLP are preferred
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Clearance
- Secret clearance preferred
