What are the responsibilities and job description for the Screen Printing Operator position at Spencer Printing?
About the role
We are a busy apparel printing company looking for an experienced Screen Printer who can hit the ground running. This is a full-time, on-site position for someone who knows their way around an automatic press, takes pride in clean registration and consistent quality, and can keep pace with a demanding production schedule. If you've got real shop experience and you're ready to show it, we want to hear from you.
Key responsibilities
Set up, operate, and maintain multi-color automatic screen printing presses
Burn and prepare screens: coat, expose, wash out, and block as needed
Reclaim screens after each job: strip emulsion, degrease, and restore for reuse
Count in, sort, and inspect incoming blank garments — verify quantities and check for defects before printing
Mix and match inks for accurate Pantone and custom color matches
Register artwork precisely and maintain tight color-to-color registration throughout each run
Perform in-line quality checks — catch misprints, off-registration, and ink issues early
Monitor and adjust conveyor dryer temperatures to ensure full ink cure across fabric types
Follow a strict daily production schedule and consistently meet throughput targets
Perform routine press maintenance and flag equipment issues before they affect output
Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with shop safety standards
Required qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience operating automatic screen printing presses — this is not an entry-level position
Proficient in all phases of screen making: coating, burning, washing out, blocking, and reclaiming
Working knowledge of plastisol and water-based inks, including mixing and viscosity adjustment
Ability to read job order sheets, production tickets, and schedules independently
Sharp attention to detail and a genuine commitment to print quality
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Reliable, punctual, and able to perform under production pressure without sacrificing quality
Preferred qualifications
Hands-on experience with M&R, Anatol, or ROQ automatic presses
Experience with specialty techniques: discharge, puff, simulated process, or high-density printing
Comfortable printing on dark garments, fashion-weight blanks, and blended fabrics
Familiarity with film output review and basic art separation concepts
Experience leading or mentoring other press operators is a plus
