The Assistant Controller will support the Controller in overseeing the accounting operations of a growing technology and defense contractor. This role is responsible for managing the month-end close process, ensuring compliance with government contracting regulations, and maintaining accurate financial reporting. Responsibilities
- Support the Controller in managing daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll
- Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
- Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements
- Ensure compliance with FAR, CAS, and DCAA regulations and internal accounting policies
- Oversee project accounting, including revenue recognition, cost allocation, and contract setup
- Support indirect rate calculations, including fringe, overhead, and G&A, and monitor provisional billing rates
- Assist with preparation of Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS) and support government audits
- Partner with FP&A and program teams to analyze financial performance and project profitability
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and support external audit activities
- Assist with system optimization and process improvements, including ERP enhancements (e.g., Unanet, Deltek Costpoint or similar)
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, reviewing work and providing guidance
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred
- 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in government contracting
- Strong knowledge of FAR, CAS, and DCAA compliance requirements
- Experience with project accounting, contract types (CPFF, T&M, FFP), and revenue recognition
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as Unanet or Deltek Costpoint
- Experience with indirect rate structures and Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS)
