Position Overview
The Accounting Manager – Technical Accounting will play a critical role in overseeing complex accounting areas, supporting financial reporting, and building scalable processes within a high-growth environment. This position requires a combination of public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and corporate accounting experience, with a strong foundation in technical accounting and U.S. GAAP.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in applying accounting guidance related to revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), and other complex transactions, particularly within a GovCon or technology-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage technical accounting initiatives, including research, documentation, and implementation of accounting policies.
- Analyze and apply ASC 606 for government and commercial contracts, including performance obligations, contract modifications, and revenue timing.
- Oversee lease accounting under ASC 842, including initial adoption, ongoing reporting, and system management.
- Prepare and review technical accounting memos to support accounting positions and audit requirements.
- Support month-end and year-end close, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and complex accounting areas.
- Partner with FP&A, Legal, Contracts, and Operations to evaluate accounting implications of new business arrangements.
- Assist with financial reporting, including preparation of disclosures and support for audits.
- Help scale accounting processes and systems to support rapid company growth and increased contract volume.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, FAR (as applicable), and internal controls.
- Mentor and develop junior accounting staff, promoting a high-performance team environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required or strongly preferred.
- 4–8 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally (but not necessarily) including a mix of public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and industry experience.
- Strong technical accounting expertise, particularly with ASC 606 and ASC 842.
- Experience in government contracting, defense, or technology companies preferred.
- Familiarity with FAR, DCAA, and contract-based accounting is a plus.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Deltek Costpoint) preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly document technical positions.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and manage multiple priorities.
