What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech Language Technician position at Spectrum Academy - Pleasant Grove?
Spectrum Academy is a premier Charter School that specializes in working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Approximately 80% of our student body receives Special Education services. Under the supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist, the school-based speech-language technician provides services targeting the prevention and remediation of difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, feeding, pragmatics, and fluency. These services are designed to help children meet their educational goals.
Location: Possible locations include either North Salt Lake or Pleasant Grove campus
Essential Job Functions:
- Specific to Speech Language Technician
- Under the supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), schedules interventions using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration and pull-out as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
- Applies a systematic workload model to facilitate the organization of the speech-language program within the school.
- Provides direct support services to students, classrooms, and small groups that are comprehensive and data-driven
- Consults with other professionals and community organizations regarding the developmental needs of students
- Addresses the needs of the school, student, families, and community by collaborating with Related Services Team and other staff to design a holistic approach to address barriers or problems with the educational process
- Under the supervision of the SLP, administers standardized tests according to appropriate procedures
- Provides information to the SLP that allows the completion of written reports that are in compliance with Federal, State, and Local Agencies
- Participates in family educational opportunities, including but not limited to Parent Empowerment Nights
- Adheres to and supports Board policy, School guidelines, and administrative rules and directives
- Maintains accurate case records and documentation
- Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations and abides by said laws and regulations with emphasis on persons with disabilities, child welfare, mental health, confidentiality, and student and parent rights
- Participates in in-service activities and staff meetings promoted by the School
- Employee will be able to move/transport up to 30 pounds
- Employee must be able to work in high-intensity environment that may have loud noises, student-caused disorganization, and employee must be capable to remain on task, in the classroom or any other school setting, while others are distracted
- Employee must complete annual FERPA training and abide by all privacy and confidentiality laws in terms of student and other employee information
Possible job duties and responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Student Services Coordinator or Related Services Director
