Position Summary
The R&D Technician II will support sample management and shipment activities within a biologics/pharmaceutical R&D environment. This role is responsible for coordinating domestic and international shipments of biological samples and research materials, ensuring compliant packaging, accurate documentation, and timely delivery. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in sample management, shipping coordination, and logistics while working collaboratively with internal teams and external shipping partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage domestic and international shipments of biological samples and research materials using ShipIT or similar shipping management systems.
- Coordinate all aspects of sample management, including shipment preparation, documentation, packaging, tracking, and delivery.
- Prepare and review shipping documentation, including bills of lading, shipping labels, customs documentation, and other required paperwork to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate appropriate packaging of biological samples and research materials while following applicable shipping regulations and company procedures.
- Prepare and coordinate multiple shipments simultaneously while ensuring timely execution.
- Collaborate with internal R&D teams and external collaborators to schedule and execute shipments.
- Communicate with freight forwarders, carriers, and shipping vendors such as FedEx, DHL, and UPS to schedule, monitor, and track shipments.
- Maintain accurate shipment records, including tracking information, delivery confirmations, and supporting documentation.
- Monitor inventory levels of shipping supplies, packaging materials, labels, and related consumables.
- Troubleshoot shipment delays or logistics issues by coordinating with internal stakeholders and external shipping partners.
- Ensure compliance with domestic and international shipping regulations, customs requirements, and hazardous material shipping guidelines.
- Assist with developing and maintaining shipping procedures, documentation practices, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Provide shipment metrics and operational updates to management as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in sample management and shipping within a biologics, pharmaceutica, biotechnology, or related laboratory environment.
- Hands-on shipping experience is required.
- Experience coordinating shipments, packaging, shipping documentation, and logistics activities.
- Experience using ShipIT or similar shipment management systems is preferred.
- Experience with commercial shipping platforms such as FedEx, DHL, or UPS is preferred.
- Experience working with LIMS or other laboratory inventory/sample management systems is preferred.
- Biologics sample processing or biologics shipping experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of domestic and international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and hazardous materials handling.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
