Patient Financial Services Manager
Full-time, Permanent role
Location: Cleveland, TN (May have some flexibility for Hybrid)
About the Role
As the Patient Financial Services Manager, you will oversee the billing operations for the hospital, shepherding the entire cycle of patient accounts receivable (AR) and ensuring alignment with our financial performance goals. You’ll work with leadership to refine policies and streamline processes, manage staff assignments and training, and take ownership of the hospital’s billing, collections, cash posting, and third-party payer compliance functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor AR indicators (e.g., AR days, cash collection goals, refund and bad debt trends, denial and under?payment recovery) and lead efforts to hit financial targets.
- Review and optimize operational policies/procedures related to AR management; recommend and implement systems enhancements to increase automation and efficiency.
- Forecast revenue projections and communicate results and trend insights to the leadership team.
- Supervise the billing & collections functions, ensuring compliance with government and third?party payer regulations, accurate cash posting, and overall productivity in the Patient Accounts Department.
- Conduct audits to ensure billing and collection integrity; mentor and provide guidance to staff; set priorities and manage multiple projects.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of managed care contracts/payment structures, ICD10/CPT coding, revenue cycle systems, and analytics/reporting tools (e.g., Excel) to support decision-making.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.
- 5-8 years of supervisory or management experience in hospital billing or revenue cycle operations.
- Strong PC skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel especially), and experience with revenue cycle software/data extraction/reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, set priorities, and collaborate as part of a team.
- Understanding of ICD10/CPT codes, managed care contracts/payment methodologies, and hospital billing/collection processes.
