Position Overview
The Outdoor Living Category Specialist will serve as a subject matter expert and strategic partner to the sales team, helping strengthen credibility and confidence with major retail buyers. This individual will play a key role in supporting product positioning, answering technical questions, and providing insights into category trends and retailer expectations.
This is not a direct sales role, but rather a consultative position focused on elevating presentations, guiding strategy, and enhancing buyer engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with senior sales leadership in meetings with major retail buyers
- Act as the technical expert across outdoor living categories, including patio umbrellas, furniture, and related materials
- Provide insights on product construction, materials, durability, and feature differentiation
- Answer detailed buyer questions related to fabric technologies, frame construction, and pricing tiers
- Support development of compelling, data-driven presentations and product positioning strategies
- Prepare internal teams for buyer meetings with key talking points and anticipated questions
- Contribute to post-meeting follow-ups by addressing technical inquiries and providing additional insights
- Stay current on category trends, competitive landscape, and retailer expectations
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience within the Outdoor Living category (patio furniture, umbrellas, or related products)
- Strong understanding of product materials, construction, and performance attributes
- Experience working with or selling into major U.S. retailers such as Walmart, Costco, Sam’s Club, Home Depot, or Lowe’s
- Familiarity with retail buying cycles, line reviews, and seasonal product strategies
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence retail buyers
- Ability to translate technical product knowledge into clear, compelling messaging
Ideal Background
- Experience with outdoor furniture or patio umbrella manufacturers
- Category expert or product specialist supporting large retail accounts
- Vendor-side professional working closely with major retailers
- Former retail buyer or category manager within Outdoor Living

Salary : $80,000 - $120,000
