A day in the life
As a Junior Precision Machining Trainee, you’ll begin each shift reviewing cell work instructions and aligning with your CNC Trainer or Supervisor. You’ll ready machines and gaging, verify setups, and keep production flowing. Throughout your day, you’ll run parts, check dimensions with a variety of gages, make offset adjustments, and change inserts to maintain accuracy and throughput. You’ll document your work, follow the tag procedure, and uphold strict housekeeping, safety, and environmental practices including recycling, labeling, and spill programs. You’ll also contribute continuous improvement ideas to your supervisor or the HR box and step in for other duties as assigned.
What you’ll do
- Follow job, inspection, safety, and environmental instructions per cell work instructions and guidance from the CNC Trainer/Supervisor
- Prepare machines and gages for operation and first‑piece verification
- Run CNC equipment and confirm parts meet specifications using gages
- Meet or exceed production and quality targets for company and customer standards
- Perform offset adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy
- Change and properly seat inserts; verify radius and insert type
- Apply the tag procedure to identify and control work in process
- Maintain excellent housekeeping and adhere to Safety & Environmental requirements (recycling, labeling, spills, programs)
- Comply with all applicable Quality and Environmental system requirements
- Submit continuous improvement ideas in safety, productivity, quality, and housekeeping
- Perform other tasks as defined by your supervisor
What you bring
- Experience with, or the ability to be trained on, CNC lathes, mills, and broaches
- Machine shop training from high school or beyond
- Hands‑on ability to perform offset adjustments
- Working knowledge of insert types and radii and how to change them properly
- Proficiency reading and interpreting gages: plug, snap, flush pin, go/no‑go, calipers, and more
