Employee Training Coordinator

Specialized Residential Services
Flint, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 3/2/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/6/2026

About Specialized Residential Services (SRS):
SRS is dedicated to providing compassionate, community-based residential services and supports for adults with developmental delays and mental health needs in Southeast Michigan. We build specialized living environments that prioritize client safety, dignity, well-being, and compliance with Adult Foster Care (AFC) standards. Join our team and help uphold the highest levels of care, professionalism, and accountability.

Job Overview:
The SRS Training Coordinator is an operations-focused leadership position responsible for establishing, enforcing, and sustaining SRS standards, culture, and compliance throughout the organization. As the primary gatekeeper for new hires, the ongoing training authority for all staff, and the guardian of SRS culture and behavioral expectations, this role ensures every employee meets rigorous standards for safety, professionalism, and client care.

Reporting directly to the Director of Operations and collaborating closely with Human Resources, the Training Coordinator holds significant authority—including recommending terminations during introductory periods, initiating retraining, and driving corrective actions. This position directly supports operational safety, licensing compliance (including AFC regulations), and client well-being.

Schedule Expectations:

  • Primary schedule: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Nights and weekends may be required based on operational needs, training demands, or compliance concerns
  • Travel between SRS homes/facilities as needed

Key Responsibilities:

  • New Hire Training & Culture Enforcement Serve as the primary trainer for all new hires; collaborate with HR on onboarding and orientation; deliver initial skills training for Direct Care Workers and other staff; set clear expectations for professional conduct, emotional regulation, authority/rule-following, client safety, and respectful care; model and reinforce SRS values as the culture enforcer.
  • 30/60/90-Day Evaluations Implement and oversee a structured 30/60/90-day evaluation and gate system; monitor performance, behavior, documentation, and adherence; identify red flags (e.g., inability to accept correction, poor emotional regulation, unsafe behavior, repeated errors); recommend termination during the introductory period when warranted, with clear documentation to Operations and HR.
  • Ongoing Training & Compliance Track, coordinate, and ensure completion of required trainings organization-wide; proactively notify staff/managers of due dates; conduct retraining for performance concerns, documentation issues, or behavioral/professionalism problems; reinforce skills in client interaction/safety, documentation accuracy, incident reporting, de-escalation, and physical engagement policies.
  • Operational Coaching & Corrective Support Provide ongoing coaching and skill reinforcement across all homes; require manager referrals for staff with repeated issues; partner with leadership to assess when retraining suffices versus when separation is necessary.
  • Documentation & Practice Standards Retrain on proper documentation; identify and address trends in poor/missing documentation; support initiatives to improve accuracy, reduce incidents, and strengthen same-shift reviews; participate in audits, walkthroughs, and quality reviews.
  • Collaboration & Reporting Report to the Director of Operations; align with HR on training, corrective actions, and employment decisions; provide insights on staff readiness, risks, and trends; support leadership efforts to stabilize operations and reduce risk.
  • Authority & Presence Maintain visible, authoritative presence across facilities; enforce consistent standards across all shifts; uphold zero-tolerance for safety violations, abuse, or misconduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; adhere to SRS Core Values, Mission, and philosophies.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Background in direct care, behavioral health, or human services required
  • Prior experience in training, coaching, compliance, or leadership roles required
  • Strong understanding of (or ability to quickly learn) Michigan Adult Foster Care (AFC) regulations, client safety standards, and documentation requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to enforce standards consistently, deliver difficult feedback, identify risks early, and act decisively
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and follow-through
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $60,000 – $75,000 annually, based on experience and demonstrated authority
  • Industry-competitive benefits package, including:
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
