What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Laboratory Manager position at Specialized Recruiting Group?
Quality Control Laboratory Manager
$65,000 | Texarkana, TX | Full-Time
Lead the Lab. Solve Problems. Make an Impact.
Are you a science-minded problem solver who enjoys leading people, improving processes, and figuring out how things work?
We’re looking for a Quality Control Laboratory Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of a busy laboratory environment. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll work alongside Chemistry and Microbiology teams, partner with other departments, and help keep testing, production, and quality goals moving forward.
If you’re ready to take your laboratory experience to the next level and want a role where your decisions actually matter, this could be the opportunity for you.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead & support the lab team by training, coaching, scheduling, and helping employees grow their technical skills.
- Own the daily priorities by coordinating testing needs with production and other departments.
- Keep things moving by identifying potential delays and communicating quickly when priorities need to change.
- Oversee laboratory testing of raw materials, components, in-process materials, and finished products.
- Manage stability testing, equipment calibration, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Make the lab better by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, processes, organization, and compliance.
- Troubleshoot problems including out-of-specification results, equipment challenges, staffing issues, and testing delays.
- Train and develop your team on laboratory methods, analytical techniques, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain quality and compliance by ensuring documentation and testing follow established FDA, GMP, SOP, and regulatory standards.
- Stay hands-on by stepping in to perform laboratory testing and other duties when needed.
- Work across teams to solve problems and keep communication strong between the laboratory and other departments.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll need:
- A four-year degree in Science, with a Chemistry major or minor preferred
- At least 5 years of analytical laboratory experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical QC environment
- Experience leading or supervising others, preferably 2 years
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- The ability to prioritize, make decisions, and keep multiple projects moving
- Experience with analytical testing methods, calculations, and laboratory procedures
- The ability to work independently while also collaborating with a team
What Will Make You Stand Out
We’re especially interested in someone who:
- Enjoys solving problems instead of waiting for someone else to fix them
- Can take a busy day and figure out what needs to happen first
- Likes teaching and helping others become better at what they do
- Notices when a process could be improved and actually does something about it
- Can communicate with everyone from laboratory staff to leadership and other departments
- Stays calm when priorities change or something unexpected happens
- Wants to grow as a leader, not just stay in a technical role
The Hands-On Side
This isn't a desk-only management position. You’ll spend approximately 50% of your time on your feet, moving throughout the laboratory and working with your team.
The role may include:
- Standing and walking throughout the lab
- Bending and lifting up to approximately 40 lbs.
- Working with laboratory equipment and instrumentation
- Working around chemicals, dust, and fumes
- Using required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, lab coats, face shields, respirators, and fume hoods
Why This Role?
This is an opportunity to combine your science background with leadership, problem-solving, and process improvement.
You won’t just be managing a schedule. You’ll help shape how the laboratory operates, develop the people around you, solve real-time problems, and play an important role in making sure products meet the highest quality standards.
If you’re ready to move beyond the bench and into a leadership role where you can make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
