What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Systems Engineer position at Special Teams?
The Principal Systems Engineer at Special Teams will be a technical leader setting tone for systems engineering across the company while designing and implementing sophisticated technical solutions for our customers. This engineer will mentor developing staff and lead systems engineering efforts across our development of complex systems, from initial concept definition through to physical build and deployment. This individual will collaborate with a talented group of engineers to deliver innovative solutions that meet our clients’ complex needs.

Role Requirements
- Lead multidisciplinary teams for major hardware development projects, manage project timelines, and ensure deliverables are met within scope and budget
- Set tone and provide guidance and mentorship to engineering teams, ensuring the successful execution of projects from concept ideation to prototype development
- Own all aspects of systems engineering from concept definition to design, analysis to validation of complex systems
- Lead stakeholder management; warrant a clear understanding of expectations across internal and external stakeholders
- Drive the resolution of systems-level risks and issues throughout the development lifecycle
- Prepare and own major systems-engineering documentation, from requirements to verification and validation plans and everything in-between
- Primary advocate for engineering practices that adhere to the right-sized standards of quality, reliability, and safety
- Support hardware design, integration, test, and deployment efforts
- Support early-phase customer engagements with industry research, white paper preparation, contributions to technoeconomic models, and building and presenting collateral to clients as needed
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in systems engineering, or equivalent experience in a relevant field or discipline
- 10 years of professional experience in systems engineering
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven experience in energy, mining, or aerospace industries
- Proficient in systems engineering tools and software (Jira, JAMA, etc.)
- Experience working on a full product/project lifecycle from design to implementation/verification
- Experience designing and developing systems which operate in a rugged environment
- The ability to effectively convey technical concepts to diverse audiences
Additional Requirements
- This position will be located at Special Teams headquarters in Seattle, WA, and will be required to work in an office during working hours
- Will need to travel ~5% of the year to meet with customers or due to project needs
