POSITION OVERVIEW

 

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) will work within our school district to provide comprehensive speech and language therapy services to students ranging from pre-kindergarten to high school. This individual will play a vital role in assessing, diagnosing, and treating communication disorders and difficulties, enabling students to communicate effectively and succeed academically.  This position requires working with children of various ages and a variety of disabilities.  Position requires traveling to different school sites within the district.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  2. ASHA CCCs or equivalent
  3. Current Washington ESA certification.
  4. Experience with interventions of the communication needs of a variety of students and varying disabilities.
  5. Experience working with children and families who are culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse is preferred.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Evaluate communication problems including receptive-expressive language, articulation, voice, fluency, neuromuscular and non-vocal.
  2. Must document evaluation results and relate the impact of the communication disorder to the educational performance of students.
  3. Identify needs, prepare treatment plans, make recommendations regarding the interventions and individualized programs (IEPs).
  4. Provide speech/language therapy to communication-disordered students from regular and special education classrooms.
  5. Provide informational and consultative services relative to the management of the communication disorder to the student, education team, family, related medical agencies and community agencies.
  6. Demonstrate positive relationship skills with students, parents and colleagues.
  7. Able to function effectively as an active, productive, and integral member of educational teams.
  8. Able to communicate effectively and in a professional manner, both orally and in writing.
  9. Able to organize caseloads.
  10. Document third party billing activities.
  11. Knowledge of due process.
  12. Knowledge of state and federal laws relating to children with disabilities.
  13. Able to complete activities that support compliance with Federal, State and local mandates.
