POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Recreational Therapist
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
2. New Mexico Public Education Department Licensure in Recreational Therapy
OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION: To implement Individualized Education Programs goals that support students’ abilities to participate in meaningful recreation and other activity’ based interventions in the educational setting.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Follow local, state and federal law and adhere to the Public Education Department and Local
School Board Policy.
2. Maintain confidentiality of student information.
3. Serve as a resource to school staff members in the area of recreation and activity based therapy.
4. Provide individual and/or group therapy to students.
5. Provide assessment of students with barriers that prevent them from participating in meaningful
leisure activities.
6. Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs to meet individual student’s
needs.
7. Perform other relevant tasks as may be assigned.
REPORTS TO: Principal and Special Services Administrators
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year will be in accord with current schedule for 191-day’ Certified Ancillary. Salary Schedule to be determined by individual training and experience level on current Certified Ancillary’ Salary’ Schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
PHYSICAL LEVEL RATING: This position will require the employee to function at a “medium”
physical capacity as defined by’ Workman’s Compensation statutes. “Medium” physical capacity’ indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
