POSITION PROPERTIES

PURPOSE

This position is responsible for providing OT intervention(s) to students on Individual Education Plans (IEP) or 504 plans. The students have a variety of educationally related disabilities and may also have underlying medical diagnoses. This position serves students Early Childhood Center for Education.

This position is responsible for providing OT intervention(s) to students on Individual Education Plans (IEP) or 504 plans. The students have a variety of educationally related disabilities and may also have underlying medical diagnoses. This position serves students K-12.

Performs other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To:       Supervisor of OT/PT and Adapted PE

Supervises:       None

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:  Bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited OT program; Must be listed on the professional registry and licensed in the state of Missouri; Experience in providing OT to children is required. 

Preferred:  Experience serving children in a public school setting is preferred; Advanced training in school-based practice is a plus, as well as experience in serving children with autism and/or multiple disabilities.

Reasoning:  Solve a variety of problems in many different situations; Interpret instructions presented in written, oral, diagram or schedule form; Apply knowledge of current therapeutic theory and techniques while working with students; Demonstrate executive functions such as planning, organizing, remembering, and regulating information and behavior as they pertain to student performance and achievement. These are essential functions of the job.

Other Skills and Abilities:  Identify needs and abilities of individual students and to adapt methods accordingly; Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; Perform multiple tasks simultaneously. These are essential functions of the job.

Technology:  Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use. These are essential functions of the job.

Physical Demands:  An individual who holds this position is frequently required to walk, stand, stoop, bend, and kneel; Is regularly required to talk and hear; daily personal and close contact with children is required; the selected applicant will regularly assist students with bodily movement; Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; Will regularly push, pull, reach for, and carry objects; Must demonstrate significant finger dexterity; Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. These are essential functions of the job.
