Department: Communications, Marketing and Development                 

Reports to (supervisor): Manager, Social Media and Digital Engagement

Status: Part-Time Internship (10 hours/week)

Date: June 1 – July 30, 2026

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Hourly Rate: $7.25 - $19.00

Position Summary: 

From June 1 – July 30, 2026, we are launching a first-of-its-kind Unified internship model, pairing a Special Olympics athlete with an intern peer to collaborate in support of the podcast and social teams, in support of Inclusion Revolution Radio, alongside the social team, while also working jointly on social and visual content.

As part of this model, Samantha will serve as the Intern, Social & Digital Engagement, supporting day-to-day social media efforts and contributing to storytelling that amplifies the voices of Special Olympics athletes and the broader movement. This role offers hands-on experience in content creation, digital strategy, and collaborative campaign execution within a global nonprofit organization.

Primary Responsibilities: (List the key responsibilities in order of importance)

  • Assist in coordinating and publishing content across Special Olympics social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, X).
  • Draft engaging social media copy and support the creation of visual content including photos, short-form video, and graphics.
  • Help maintain and update the social media content calendar, ensuring consistent posting cadence.
  • Support social media campaigns, key moments, and global initiatives through content planning and execution.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and contribute to storytelling that highlights athlete voices and impact areas.
  • Partner with Jadon Smith on select content projects, including social and visual storytelling tied to podcast initiatives.
  • Monitor social media trends and suggest ideas for engaging new audiences.
  • Assist with basic performance tracking and reporting on social media engagement metrics.

Required Qualifications: (list what the candidate must have to do the job)

  • Current college student (rising junior or senior preferred) pursuing communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
  • Strong writing and communication skills with an interest in social media and digital storytelling.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and trends.
  • Basic experience with content creation tools (e.g., Canva, CapCut, Adobe Suite, or similar) is a plus.
  • Interest in nonprofit work, inclusion, and/or the mission of Special Olympics.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
