We're looking for an experienced Senior Cutting Tool Designer who enjoys solving complex manufacturing challenges and takes pride in designing innovative tooling solutions. In this role, you'll collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, sales, and customers to develop custom tools that deliver exceptional performance and quality.
As our Senior Cutting Tool Designer, you'll play a key role in developing innovative tooling solutions that help customers improve productivity, quality, and manufacturing performance.
What You'll Do
- Design and develop custom CBN, PCD, ceramic, carbide cutting tools, fixtures, and special tooling for customer-specific manufacturing applications.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Improve existing tool designs to enhance quality, manufacturability, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to troubleshoot production challenges and improve processes.
- Work with Sales and Application Engineering to develop customer-specific tooling solutions.
- Support new product development from concept through production.
- Maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), engineering records, and engineering change documentation.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure designs meet customer specifications, quality standards, and manufacturing requirements.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of five (5) years of cutting tool design or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Extensive knowledge of cutting tool design and cutting tool theory.
- Practical machining experience required.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor preferred; experience with SolidWorks, Creo, or similar CAD software will also be considered.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining, grinding processes, GD&T, and precision manufacturing.
- Experience supporting products from concept through production.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, Bills of Material, and engineering documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- A collaborative mindset with a passion for continuous improvement.
