About Us:
- SPEC a small yet very high-tech atmospheric research and specialized instrument manufacturer in beautiful Boulder, Colorado.
- We are looking for an experienced electronics technician to assist in manufacturing and debugging airborne research instruments and computer systems.
- This role requires the ability to work directly with engineering in the construction and troubleshooting of complex avionics instruments and equipment.
- Excellent soldering skills and a personal commitment to quality and workmanship are a must, as well as the ability to work and think independently.
- Previous experience in an aerospace environment is desirable.

Required Skills:
- A strong working knowledge of standard electronic test equipment is required.
- Ability to read and follow schematics and wiring diagrams
- Familiar with and understand fundamental electrical principals and concepts
- Ability to perform electro-mechanical assembly using standard hand tools and techniques
- Experienced with wire routing and dressing techniques
- Experienced with use of standard hand tools such as crimpers, wire strippers, heat shrink guns
- Experienced at hand soldering and rework of thru-hole components
- Familiar with techniques for termination of shielded twisted pair wire. Knowledgeable about basic shielding principals, ground loops
- Knowledgeable regarding wire gauge, basic cable construction, and conductor color coding
- Experienced with standard types of mil-spec circular connectors and insertion/extraction tools
- Able to use standard test equipment like DVM’s and LAN testers to test and troubleshoot wiring errors, opens, and shorts.
- Familiar with common inspection criteria for proper crimping and soldering of electrical contacts and connectors
Preferred Skills:
- Supervisory experience
- Associates degree in electronics
- Ability to troubleshoot both analog and digital circuitry down to the component level
- IPC certifications for hand soldering and/or crimping
- Surface mount hand soldering of fine-pitch and discreet components down to 0402
- Familiar with basic local area networking fundamentals
- Experience building up Windows computers from commercially available components
- Experience with complex digital electronics and firmware (DSP’s, FPGA’s, etc)
- Experienced at handling and assembly of optics components
