What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Development Manager position at Speak?
We are seeking a dynamic Business Development Manager to help drive revenue growth by building strong relationships with both new and existing clients while also helping strengthen and guide our sales practice.
This role is ideal for a high-performing salesperson who is energized by both winning new business and improving how a sales team operates. You’ll be responsible for selling innovative marketing solutions, identifying opportunities for growth, supporting consistent sales processes, tracking performance, and helping our team stay sharp and focused.
At Speak, this is a hands-on role. While you’ll help lead the business development function, you’ll also be expected to actively sell, manage your own pipeline, build relationships, and contribute directly to revenue. The right candidate will be both a strong individual producer and a steady, strategic presence for the broader sales team. This role reports to the VP of Growth and works closely with the business development team and cross-functional leaders across strategy, creative, marketing, and technology.
Position location: In-office at our Nashville or Memphis locations. For the right candidate, the position may be available as a remote option.
You'll need:
- 5 years of experience in sales, business development, account growth, or a related field.
- 2 years of experience helping lead a sales or business development function, including coaching team members, improving sales processes, and supporting pipeline accountability.
- A passion for building relationships and driving client acquisition through meaningful connections.
- A strong track record of sales performance, including meeting or exceeding revenue, pipeline, or business development goals.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to craft recommendations that solve challenges and create impact for clients.
- The ability to actively manage your own pipeline while creating consistency and accountability across the broader sales team.
- Salesforce fluency, including experience tracking leads, clients, opportunities, sales activity, pipeline movement, and performance reporting. This role requires more than basic CRM familiarity; candidates should be comfortable leading adoption, maintaining data quality, creating useful reports and dashboards, and using Salesforce to support sales accountability and decision-making.
- The ability to use Salesforce not just as a personal tracking tool, but as a leadership and visibility tool for pipeline management, forecasting, performance reporting, and process improvement.
- Experience supporting sales training, process adoption, or best-practice development for a business development team.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present ideas persuasively.
- Proven experience working with clients and cross-functional teams to deliver results-driven solutions.
- Experience supporting, guiding, or mentoring other sales or business development professionals.
- The ability to report on sales activity, pipeline health, performance trends, and opportunities for improvement.
- A strong understanding of digital marketing trends and the ability to translate them into actionable strategies for clients.
- Experience in a marketing-driven environment, with digital agency experience a plus.
Things we’re looking for:
- A high-performing salesperson who enjoys prospecting, building relationships, creating opportunities, and closing business.
- A collaborative team player who is intelligent, hardworking, and committed to making our team stronger.
- A steady sales leader who can help reinforce strong habits, shared processes, and clear expectations without needing formal people-management authority.
- A Salesforce-proficient sales leader who can help the team use the platform consistently, accurately, and strategically.
- A strategic thinker with a marketing mindset who understands digital marketing and can help clients drive meaningful results.
- A self-motivated problem solver who can balance multiple priorities, create a plan, and execute it with confidence.
- An organized and detail-oriented professional who understands the importance of accurate data management and consistently maintains up-to-date records in a CRM.
- A curious and adaptable learner who actively seeks out new knowledge, embraces change, and thrives in a rapidly-evolving digital landscape.
- Someone who can spot patterns in sales conversations, client needs, market trends, and service opportunities — then turn those insights into practical recommendations for improving how we sell and what we offer.
- Someone who is comfortable providing visibility into sales performance, pipeline movement, team activity, and emerging opportunities.
