Position Title: High‑Volume Spay/Neuter Veterinarian

Employment Type: Full-Time

Location: San Antonio

Position Summary

The High‑Volume Spay/Neuter Veterinarian provides high-quality, high-volume surgical sterilization services in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. This role focuses on efficient, compassionate, and safe surgical care for dogs and cats while supporting population control, community animal welfare, and access to affordable veterinary services.

Key Responsibilities

Surgery (Primary Duty)

Perform 30–40 HQHVSN surgeries per day.

Conduct spay/neuter procedures on cats and dogs, including pediatric patients.

Perform pre-operative exams to evaluate anesthetic suitability.

Monitor anesthesia and ensure safe induction, maintenance, and recovery protocols.

Adhere to HQHVSN and ASV (Association of Shelter Veterinarians) surgical guidelines.

Maintain surgical flow, efficiency, and high safety standards.

Veterinary Care & Medical Oversight

Provide medical judgment regarding surgical complications and patient care.

Oversee and support veterinary technicians and assistants in anesthesia, prep, and recovery.

Follow established SOPs for infection control, analgesia, and shelter medicine protocols.

Ensure accurate medical records for all patients.

Client & Community Interaction

Communicate professionally with clients regarding surgical findings, aftercare, and postoperative expectations.

Educate clients on population control, vaccinations, and preventive health care.

Team Collaboration

Work closely with clinic leadership to maintain efficient daily workflow.

Provide mentorship to staff, students, or volunteers as needed.

Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure compliance with state veterinary practice laws and DEA regulations.

Uphold high standards of patient safety, sanitation, and facility cleanliness.

Qualifications

Required

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree.

Active veterinary license in the state of Texas.

Competence in high-volume, high-quality surgical techniques.

Ability to perform spays/neuters quickly, safely, and consistently.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred

Previous experience in a high-volume spay/neuter or shelter medicine setting.

Familiarity with HQHVSN protocols and efficiency-based surgical models.

Experience with pediatric and/or feral cat surgery programs (TNR).

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-production environment.

Exposure to anesthesia, chemicals, animals of varying temperaments, and loud noise.

  • Salary range: $125,000–$225,000, based on experience
