Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Power BI Developer to support the Colorado Office of Information Technology’s (OIT) Business Intelligence Program. This role will partner with business stakeholders, data analysts, and integration teams to develop reusable data models, interactive reports, and dashboards that support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather and document business requirements, reporting objectives, and relevant data sources.
• Analyze existing Excel formulas, pivot tables, and manual reporting processes to translate business logic into Power BI solutions and identify improvements.
• Design and document conceptual, logical, and physical data models, including reusable Power BI semantic models, table relationships, and row- and column-level security.
• Connect and transform data from SQL databases, Excel, APIs, Google BigQuery, ArcGIS layers, and streaming datasets.
• Collaborate with OIT’s Integrations team to follow established integration patterns.
• Develop DAX measures, calculated columns, and custom calculations.
• Build interactive reports and dashboards with slicers, drill-through functionality, ArcGIS visuals, and streaming data.
• Optimize report and model performance using DAX Studio, Power BI performance tools, and Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer.
• Publish and manage reports in Power BI Service, including access controls and scheduled refreshes.
• Follow organizational source control and version control practices using Azure DevOps.
• Lead working sessions, discuss backlog status, clarify changing requirements, and present insights to non-technical stakeholders.
• Use AI tools to improve development processes and data analysis workflows.

Desired Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience developing Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models.
• Strong DAX, data modeling, data transformation, and performance optimization skills.
• Experience with Power BI Service deployment, security, refresh schedules, and large datasets.
• Intermediate or higher Excel proficiency, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and reverse engineering existing business processes.
• Experience connecting Power BI to diverse data sources.
• Familiarity with DAX Studio, Tabular Editor Best Practice Analyzer, and Azure DevOps.
• Ability to translate business needs into effective reporting solutions and explain technical concepts clearly.
• Strong collaboration, meeting facilitation, and stakeholder communication skills.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted workflows; experience with Google AI tools is a plus.
