Position Summary
Spartan Pattern is seeking a highly detail-oriented Pattern Maker to join our team. This position is responsible for building, modifying, repairing, and maintaining foundry patterns, core boxes, and tooling used in the production of metal castings. The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, has strong mechanical aptitude, and is committed to producing high-quality tooling that meets customer specifications and foundry requirements.
Attention to detail is critical in this role, as even minor dimensional errors can impact casting quality and production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Build new patterns, core boxes, and foundry tooling from engineering drawings, CAD models, and customer specifications.
- Repair, modify, and maintain existing tooling.
- Measure and verify dimensions using precision measuring instruments.
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD-generated prints.
- Work with wood, plastic, urethane, epoxy, metal, and composite materials.
- Operate woodworking and metalworking equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ensure tooling meets dimensional, quality, and production requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers, foundries, and customers to resolve tooling issues.
- Maintain organized work areas and accurate project documentation.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to increase quality and efficiency.
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Pattern Maker, Tool Maker, Cabinet Maker, Machinist, Carpenter, or similar skilled trade.
- Experience in foundry tooling, patternmaking, CNC machining, or mold-making.
- Familiarity with CAD software and 3D models.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Understanding of metal casting processes and foundry operations.
- Experience working with wood, plastics, urethanes, and metals.
