What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full-Time Social Studies / Technology Teacher (1.0 FTE) position at Sparta Middle School?
Position Summary: Sparta Middle School is seeking an innovative educator to teach Social Studies and provide instruction in technology and computer science. Responsibilities include teaching Social Studies aligned to Michigan standards, introducing students to Python programming, computational thinking, digital citizenship, and technology applications, and creating engaging, project-based learning experiences that connect history, civics, geography, and technology.
Required Qualifications:
- Possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or be certified by Fall 2026
- Endorsement in Secondary Social Studies (CQ or RX) __ Technology (NP); additional secondary endorsements preferred
- Passion for working with middle school students
- Willingness to engage in the PLC process of ongoing professional development
- Willing to grow capacity around data dialogues and Response to Intervention (RtI) practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to implement 1-to-1 technology in ways that enhance student learning
- Effectively utilize learning management systems (Schoology, Google Classroom, etc.)
- Professional, courteous individual possessing high ethical standards

- Additional Secondary Endorsements in Core Areas
- Collaborative, curious, and possess a growth mindset
- Experienced in engaging with colleagues in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Ability to actively listen, accept constructive criticism, and provide constructive feedback to colleagues to enhance student learning and instructional practices
- Working knowledge of and/or experience implementing Project Based Learning (PBL)
- Experience and/or willingness to engage in leadership roles, sponsoring co-curricular activities and/or coaching opportunities
- Experience implementing PBIS strategies and protocols
- Knowledge of and experience using the Responsible Thinking Process (RTP) or similar model of behavior management
- Demonstrate a student-centered approach to learning
- Passionate, relational individual with proven ability to connect with students and families
- Clear communicator who proactively addresses issues related to learning and student welfare
- Can speak to examples of applying best practices
- Proficient in analyzing and responding to formative student performance data
