What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Mechanical Engineer position at Sparks Group?
Sparks Group has partnered with a local utility provider to identify a Principal Mechanical Engineer to perform advanced mechanical engineering work in the field, plant, and office, with significant independence and decision-making authority.
Responsibilities:
- Formulate long-range programs for mechanical system improvements.
- Create programs and designs for various projects.
- Direct junior engineers and other employees in design tasks.
- Prepare and review plans, specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents.
- Consult on mechanical equipment design, operational, and maintenance issues.
- Confer with officials on mechanical engineering issues.
- Prepare cost estimates for special projects.
- Conduct complex engineering studies and produce final reports.
- Attend meetings and government hearings.
- Mentor junior engineering staff.
- Develop mechanical design documents.
Qualifications/Background Profile:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred)
- 6 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
- 1 year(s) in planning and directing senior mechanical engineering projects.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Maryland (or obtain within 12 months).
- Valid driver’s license with no more than 4 points.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
- Ability to plan and direct the work of engineers and administrative personnel.
- Ability to apply engineering knowledge to various problems.
- Ability to present complex engineering reports and estimates.
- Good professional engineering judgment.

Pay Range: Salary $120,000.00 to $200,000.00
