The Senior Accountant is a cornerstone of our finance team, responsible for ensuring that all financial practices align with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) while driving compliance and supporting the organization’s strategic growth.
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Accounting & Finance, you will oversee all aspects of financial operations—from preparing accurate, timely reports that inform executive decision-making to managing project accounting across multiple school sites. You’ll play a critical role in maintaining financial transparency and operational efficiency, while collaborating across departments to resolve issues and optimize processes.
This role also involves designing and implementing robust general ledger systems and procedures that enhance financial accuracy and visibility. Your work will directly contribute to the financial health and sustainability of our organization, empowering us to fulfill our mission of creating a bigger and brighter future for children.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain accurate and compliant financial records, including vendor payment processing and reconciling bank statements
- Execute recurring processes such as:
- Month end activities (accruals, journal entries, other various schedules etc)
- Weekly cash flow preparation (invoices and bank feed)
- Monthly sales tax reporting
- Preparing and reconciling franchise royalty reports
- Refund monitoring and processing
- Support annual audit preparation and documentation (typically February–April)
- Compile monthly financial reports, management reporting, and scorecards
- Set up and maintain utility accounts for all school sites
- Oversee bank account activity, including fund transfers between corporate, school, and franchisee accounts
- Troubleshoot and resolve payment/refund issues and other finance-related concerns
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process enhancements
- Collaborate with other departments to support budgeting and forecasting aligned with organizational goals
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITY
- Proficiency in financial systems and tools to support efficient data management and reporting
- Analytical thinker with a commitment to accuracy and compliance
- Strong ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across teams
- Self-starter with a results-driven mindset and excellent time management
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA certification (or in progress) strongly preferred
- Minimum 3 years of accounting experience
- Experience with multi-site or project-based accounting
- Solid understanding of financial regulations and compliance standards
- Advanced proficiency in financial systems such as QuickBooks, SAP, Hyperion, and Microsoft Excel
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly desired
PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Requires prolonged sitting at desk, keyboard use, and visual focus, with occasional light lifting or carrying of materials
- Flexible hybrid position with three days in the office
