Position: Design and Release Engineer – Steering
As a Design and Release Support Engineer, you will work on steering system components such as the steering gear, intermediate shaft, and steering column, contributing to the development of world-class electric vehicles. You will collaborate with interfacing system engineers and cross-functional teams to take designs from initial concept through to production.
ResponsibilitiesSupport the design and release of steering system components from concept to production.
Document component requirements aligned with vehicle functions and performance attributes.
Lead technical development activities with suppliers, ensuring delivery under challenging cost, timing, and technical constraints.
Contribute to steering system and component DFMEAs, DVPs, and system-level failure mode analyses.
Conduct detailed structural assessments of bolted connections and safety-critical components.
Perform structural analysis to ensure compliance with safety and durability standards.
Resolve virtual build issues through benchmarking and support manufacturing teams with error-proofing (poke-yoke) solutions.
Utilize CAD and tolerance stack-ups to verify packaging, spatial constraints, and clearances.
Apply GD&T principles to validate part fit, form, and function.
Create, track, and drive closure of Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to support design updates and continuous improvement.
Support cost reduction initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement roadmaps for current and future vehicles.
QualificationsExperience in the design and release of safety-critical components from concept to production.
Strong 3D CAD skills with proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX.
5 years of experience in the automotive industry, ideally with chassis and steering systems.
Knowledge of safety-critical mechatronics and hydraulic systems.
Experience in requirements management and verification planning.
Hands-on experience in engineering change management and project management.
Strong supplier management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
EducationBS/BEng in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
