PURPOSE

This is a full-time on-site role for a CNC Setup Operator specializing in 2-axis machine. The CNC Setup Operator will be responsible for day-to-day tasks associated with setting up and operating CNC machinery to produce precision aerospace components. The Setup Operator must be capable of performing complete setups on Okuma, Haas, and DMG MORI lathes, including tooling, offsets, and first-piece approval. From print to full production independently.


Relevant skills and qualifications that would be beneficial for the role include experience in the aerospace, defense, or power generation industries, and knowledge of programming languages used in CNC machining.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform complete setups on 2-axis CNC lathes (Okuma, Haas, DMG MORI).
  • Load, edit, and verify CNC programs using Fanuc and Okuma OSP controls.
  • Set and adjust tool offsets and work offsets (G54–G59).
  • Install, align, and secure tooling, including inserts, boring bars, jaws, and collets.
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software to support CNC programming and machining operations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Perform First Article Inspection (FAI) in compliance with AS9102 requirements, as applicable.
  • Maintain tight tolerances (±0.005” or better) in accordance with specifications.
  • Troubleshooting issues such as tool wear, chatter, and dimensional deviations.
  • Optimize feeds and speeds to improve efficiency and part quality.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, Johnson gage indicators, and optical comparators.
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with AS9100 quality management system (QMS)
  • Maintain accurate production records, inspection reports, and traveler documentation.
  • Adhere to all safety standards, including OSHA and company-specific policies; maintain a clean and organized work area (5S standards).


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and operate CNC machines, including milling machines, for drilling, grinding, and milling operations.
  • Monitor machine performance during operation to ensure proper functionality and output quality.
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and report any mechanical issues.
  • Handle raw materials and finished goods safely; operate forklifts or other material handling equipment as required.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing and root cause corrective actions (RCCA).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required, technical certification in CNC machining or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on CNC setup and operation experience, preferably in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience with 2-axis CNC lathes (Okuma, Haas, DMG MORI preferred).
  • Proficiency with Fanuc and/or Okuma OSP controls.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and ability to interpret complex engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards and aerospace manufacturing requirements strongly preferred.
  • Experience with tight tolerance machining (±0.005” or better).
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
  • Basic understanding of CAD/CAM software for machining applications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and quality issues independently.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment in a fast-paced production setting.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in an AS9100-certified environment.
  • Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Inspection documentation.
  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking on the production floor.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the facility, including production and office environments.
  • Requires manual dexterity, including the use of hands for handling, grasping, and operating equipment.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity to perform job duties safely and effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and noisy manufacturing environment.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Exposure to moving machinery, mechanical parts, and moderate noise levels on the production floor.
  • Required to follow all company safety policies and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when in designated areas.
  • Frequent interaction with cross-functional teams, including operations, quality, supply chain, and suppliers.


WORK LOCATION  

  • On-site position.
  • This role is based in Gardena, CA and requires regular presence at the facility.


SCHEDULE:

  • 8-hour shift, Monday through Friday
  • Overtime may be required based on production needs
