Be part of Abraxas Youth & Family Services and together, we're continue Building Better Futures!Job Type: Full-timeResponsible for the daily testing of patient samples in all areas of the clinical laboratory according to established policies and procedures to include: operation of computerized and automated instrumentation, quality control and maintenance, quality assurance and test results distribution.Knowledgeable of the principles upon which lab tests are based and can recognize appropriate questionable and critical results. Possesses the ability to organize workload for maximum efficiency, accuracy and ensures that reports are legible. Oversees and manages the assigned department including staff, education, quality control, quality assurance and the overall quality of Lab test results.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesA. Technical Consultant Responsibilities1. Verification of the test procedures performed and establishment of the lab’s performancespecifications, including the precision, accuracy and reportable range.2. Establishes a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establishing the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that acceptable levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process.3. Resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial action are taken whenever test systems deviate from the labs established performance specifications.4. Oversees all training needs and evaluates the competency of technical staff. Assures that staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report tests results promptly, accurately and proficiently.5. Monitors and review all laboratory functions including: quality control, maintenance, staff training/competency, proficiency testing, enrolment performance and evaluation, test performance, and corrective actions.6. Ensures patient test results are not reported until all connective action has been taken and test systems are functioning properly.7. Encourages and promotes a work environment that facilitates team efforts, positive attitudes and creativity among co-workers both within and outside the department.Oversees laboratory quality assurance, assisting with quality improvement, identifying problems, investigating, monitoring and recommending solutions for change.8. Is available by phone, fax or digital communication during lab operation or as delegated by the laboratory director.B. Quality Control and Maintenance1. Ensures that quality control procedures are followed: to include daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual quality control and equipment maintenance is completed according to established lab policy and procedure.2. Reviews work as designated by lab director.C. Inventory Control1. Ensures lab staff maintains proper rotation of supplies, dates and initials upon receipt.D. Patient Testing1. Ensures patient testing is performed within the department according to established policy and procedure in a proficient and in a timely manner.2. Ensures that staff is following protocol for STAT testing, Critical Values and repeat testing.E. Other1. Assists Lab Director with the monitoring and collecting of data.2. Reviews data off-site as needed.3. Attends continuing education as required by a any state regulations.4. Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Lab Director.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Requires prolonged standing, frequent sitting, bending, stooping, and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing, color- vision and manual dexterity sufficient to operate laboratory instrumentation, keyboard, telephone, fax, photocopier and other office equipment as needed. Requires ability to work under stressful conditions and possess good communication skills.WORKING CONDITION:The occupant of this position spends 95% of the time inside air-conditioned work area.
