We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Floater to join our Head Start team. The ideal candidate will work closely with children, families, and staff, ensuring a positive and supportive learning environment. This individual will help prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks for students as well. This position requires flexibility, mindfulness, and a passion for working with children. This individual will work Monday-Thursday 7:30AM-2:00PM. This position is subject to a temporary layoff during the summer months while classes are not in session.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide regular breaks to teachers at designated sites.
  • Oversee meal and snack preparation for classrooms, ensuring timely distribution.
  • Support in cleaning dishes and infant bottles.
  • Act as a substitute teacher when needed.
  • Grocery shopping for classroom snacks and meals, following USDA guidelines.
  • Engage with children during classroom time, assist teachers with projects, and support lesson preparations.
  • Assist with classroom material inventory and setup, adhering to ITERS, ECERS, and Creative Curriculum standards.
  • Support individualized student needs as required.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess ability to interact and communicate with others professionally, positively, and productively. This includes verbal language and written communication.

  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively, dependability, and compassion are necessary skills.
  • Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.

  • Complete physical examination promptly upon employment. (WI Child Care regulations state within 30 days of employment)


Preferred but not required...

  • Bilingual- English & Spanish (additional $1 per hour if proficient and used in an eligible classroom)
  • CPR with AED knowledge & First Aid certification for children and adults
  • Previous childcare experience or education highly preferred

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move frequently and quickly, including running if necessary. This position requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, and lifting of children within weight range of up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
  • Must be capable of operating kitchen appliances safely. Food preparation, handwashing, dishwashing and relevant procedures must be followed thoroughly.
  • Noise level in work environment ranges from moderate to high.
  • Strong odors may be present.
  • Must always maintain active supervision of students when stepping into a classroom.
